File an FBT return

Modified on Fri, 23 May at 6:25 AM

Overview

There are two options to file an FBT return; E-file via myIR, or physically send a signed paper form to Inland Revenue. FBT returns cannot be directly filed from TaxLab as Inland Revenue does not currently support e-filing FBT returns outside of myIR.

E-file via myIR (recommended)

E-filing a return will ensure the return is received by IR, and will provide a digital copy of the data that was e-filed.

  1. From the entity’s FBT calculation, in the navigation bar select Reports > Tax Return.
  2. Select the tab for the relevant period.
  3. In the Filing method options, select Online E-FBT.
  4. At the bottom of the return, select E-file return. This will open myIR in a new tab, to log in and file the return for the relevant entity.

Print and file a paper return

  1. From the entity’s FBT calculation, select the Printer icon in the navigation bar.
  2. Select IR420 FBT Return, IR421 FBT Return or IR422 FBT Return, for the applicable period.
  3. Download the PDF return, or send it to a printer, then submit to IR.

What's next?

Once the FBT return is completed, lock the return period.
