Introduction
The Payment Schedule displays upcoming provisional and terminal tax payments calculated from uplift calculations based on the Target Return Filing Date set during the e-filing process:
- Navigate to Reports > Filing and Payment Schedule to view the Payment Schedule.
Printed PDF reports
By default, the Payment Schedule is included in PDF E-file transcripts (except for partnerships and look through companies (LTCs)). You can stop it printing for a particular entity by unchecking the print setting.
How the calculations work
Tax instalment amounts
Tax instalment amounts are calculated based on the Target Return Filing Date and data from each underlying payment task.
You can adjust the Target Return Filing Date at Reports > Filing and Payment Schedule.
Changing the Target Return Filing Date allows you to set the uplift rate based on whether you expect to file the return before or after a particular provisional tax due date.
The tax instalment amount displayed on the Payment Schedule is the amount due on the payment task minus previous instalments (at the time when the payment task was set to “Closed” or “Not Required”).
Draft amounts
If a provisional tax instalment amount is required to be calculated based on the prior period tax return (e.g., P3) and you haven't set an earlier Target Return Filing Date, then the payment task will calculate the amount due based on the draft prior period tax return position (if available) and will be labelled “Draft” on the Payment Schedule.
Automatically closed payment tasks
Payment tasks labelled “Automatically Closed” indicate tasks with a due date before the date the entity was created. Provisional tax is not calculated for these tasks as they have already passed. Instead, the Payment Schedule will reflect “Provisional Tax Instalment” assessment transactions from the Inland Revenue transaction feed at Workpapers > Tax Payments.
Tax already paid
Tax payments
The “Paid” column on the Payment Schedule displays the aggregate of any tax payments dated after the last provisional tax instalment date. This is based on the “Instalment Date” field on tax payments transactions at Workpapers > Tax Payments. You can adjust this date if a tax payment should be allocated against a different provisional tax instalment.
Pending tax payments and transfers
Transactions set as "Is Pending" at Workpapers > Tax Payments are included in the “Paid” column on the Payment Schedule and in payment tasks (but do not affect the Tax position or Tax return).
Donation credits
To include a donation tax credit rebate in the “Paid” column on the Payment Schedule, include it as a tax payment transaction at Workpapers > Tax Payments and set as "Is Pending".
